A Good Bold George II Brass Socket Candlestick

Retaining the original loose nozzle, or sconce, cast in a simple but similar outline to the base. Below the socket the stem is cast in two pieces, then seamed together. The stem has a pleasing and intricate design, including turned knops, a central faceted vase, all below a gadrooned-type cover. 

The candlestick is raised on a decorative stepped base, with convex corners and concave sides. 

Height 8 inches.

English (probably Birmingham or London), circa 1740.
